Situation
Techniquex is the nation’s largest independent specialty flooring contractor. Techniquex has earned a reputation for quality by hiring skilled employees, utilizing the best equipment, developing unique and performance enhancing processes and utilizing only the best materials the industry has to offer.
Techniquex's “old” way of processing estimates for prospective projects is depicted below:
- Project Survey information recieved via fax
- Re-enter project specfications into Excel project estimate spread sheet from project survey
- Update and/or correct product inventory and pricing
- Re-format project estimate to fit given project requirements (per estimate)
- Print project estimate and submit for approval
- Upon approval, print and fax finalized estimate to vendors

The Solution
Developers of iC Tek Solutions determined that it would be best to implement a web based system that would allow employees to access the estimates even when off-site on client visits.
iC Tek Solutions web developers designed and implemented an in-house system that was object oriented based using the .Net 3.5 Framework with a MS SQL 2005 database backbone. This solution streamlined the data input process, approval process and vendor submission process. Additionally, we incorporated an audit trail for updates and checklist to ensure that all sections of the estimate are completed before approval submission. Product inventory and pricing now has a centralized editing location for all estimates.

Results
The solution reduced the amount of rework on each estimate as well as the number of data errors. Estimates are now accurate and organized resulting in improved project management and cost forecasting.
